About Me

The story behind the work.

Achim Benzel — Independent Designer & Art Director

I'm Achim, 25, a freelance designer based in Germany.

Who I Am

2013 — First Steps: Discovered Photoshop Elements 11 at age 12. Started making banners in the Minecraft scene.

2014 — 3D & Motion: Got into Cinema 4D and started building 3D intros. No real plan, just learning by doing.

2019 — Growing Understanding: Years of trying things out slowly turned into a real feel for visuals and details. Also started designing posters and tickets for our school.

2023 — Studies & Self-Employed: Started studying time-based media in Mainz. That same summer I went freelance and ran both in parallel.

2026 — Today: Finished my bachelor. Now combining a solid design instinct with strategic thinking and strong technical skills.

What I Do

I build brand identities with substance. Strategy and design come together to create systems that are clearly positioned and made to last.

My work covers brand strategy, visual identity, digital and interactive design, editorial and print, content and campaigns, motion design, and employer branding.

I don't just make things look good. I build solutions that work behind the scenes too: structured, intentional, and built for the long run.

My Approach

Every project starts with understanding. I dig into the brand, the context, and the audience before jumping into the creative work.

From there it becomes iterative. Concepts get tested, questioned, and refined until they actually perform. I work closely with clients throughout, keeping things transparent and collaborative rather than handing off a black box.

The goal is always a consistent system that works across all touchpoints, from identity and digital to editorial and spatial.

Beyond Work

Nature & Outdoors: Cycling, fresh air, and quiet spots. The best way to reset after screen time.

Retro Gaming: Classics on older consoles. PS1, PS2, and the golden era of gaming.

Type Design: Experimenting with letterforms and new typefaces as a creative side project.

Building Tools: Writing scripts and building small tools that make creative workflows faster.

Tea & Focus: A good cup of tea and intentional routines keep the deep work sessions going.
